Rare surviving Harry Clarke illustrations go on sale at The Fine Art Society
4 June - 3 July

Ten rare original colour illustrations produced by the Irish artist Harry Clarke for a de luxe edition of Hans Andersen’s Fairy Tales  which survived the London Blitz because they were taken to the United States are to go on sale for the first time in more than 80 years in a remarkable exhibition at The Fine Art Society from 4 June to 3 July 2008. The startlingly beautiful pictures from the golden age of book illustration have been in a private collection in the United States for decades and have been exhibited publicly only once since the 1920s.

Roy Turner Durrant
8th - 22nd May

The first substantial exhibtion of  Durrant's work in over twenty years will be held at The Fine Art Society from 8 - 22 May 2008.

Roy Turner Durrant, Suffolk-born and East-Anglian based, was in his own highly particular way, an artist of a typically English sort, and very much of his time. Not all serious and talented artists necessarily achieve the wider reputation they might deserve, and Durrant’s has been a sleeping reputation.

Power and Poetry: The Art of John Linnell
2nd - 18th April

The Fine Art Society and Lowell Libson Ltd will present an exhibition of paintings by John Linnell at 148 New Bond Street from 2 to 18 April 2008.

This is the first show of John Linnell’s (1792-1882) work for 25 years who, along with J M W Turner and John Constable, was one of the three major figures in British landscape art in the 19th century. Linnell has been neglected in recent years while Turner and Constable are firmly established in the Pantheon of great artists. His importance is not only as an artist; Linnell was William Blake’s greatest supporter and also a major influence on his future son-in-law, Samuel Palmer.
